Artist’s Statement:

It seems like I have been involved with some type of art all my life. After taking training in painting with various teachers,and dabling in other areas such as pottery,and weaving,I discovered working with textiles and various fibres in the mid 90’s and continue in the field of mixed media, sculpture and painting. During the Renaissance, artists expressed their ideas in a variety of disciplines. I too feel that I am multidisciplined, as I find that I have to express my art in various ways, using various materials. I strive to keep them all unified. This compulsion keeps my art fresh and me motivated. In 2007 my husband and I moved back to his home in Brighton, England which was quite a change from my native Vancouver and Calgary.I have joined both art and embroidery groups here who are very supportive of a colonial in their midst. I am enjoying the wealth of history and artistic expertise in my new country and love the ancient villages and beauty of the rolling pastoral scenes which give me inspiration for further areas of art.

Biography:

Judy has been involved with art for over 30 years.This included work with painting, weaving and pottery. In 1997 she became involved with working with textiles and various fibres, quickly moving into the area of fibre using her background in art. In 2002, she expanded her involvement in mixed media through training with the London England based City and Guilds at the Gail Harker Creative Studies Centre on Whidbey Island, Washington.She completed the City and Guilds certification in Art and Design as well as levels I and II machine embroidery. In 2007 She completed the Advanced Experimental Machine Stitch level III. She produces pieces for competition and for sale.

Shows:

Judy’s recent shows were with the Brighton embroidery Guild and the Dupont Art Group in 2010 and 2011. In the next 2011 shows, Judy will exhibit during the Brighton and Hove Arts Festival in Brighton where she will show at the Ventnor Hall, the Duke of Wellington, with the Embroiders Guild at the Rock and at the Ascension Arts, all in the month of May. In June she will be in the show with the Summer Exhibition of the Brighton and Hove Arts Council at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton and in August, 2011, with Dupont group at Ventnor Hall, Brighton and Hove, UK. Judy has art exhibited on a regular basis at the Duke of Wellington in Brighton. In Canada, Judy has shown at the ’Out of the Box’ show in White Rock BC. She is showing with the Cutting Edge Art Group at the Kay Meek Center in West Vancouver from November 2nd, to November 27th, 2011. 2012 has Judy appearing as one of the artists in the Brighton Art Festival in May at the Ascention Arts. In addition, she has pieces with the Dupont Group at the Friends Center in Brighton from the 18-21st of April, as well as Ventnor Hall in August. She continues to show on a regular basis at the Duke of Wellington in Brighton.

Seymour Art Gallery,North Vancouver, Silk Purse Art Gallery, West Vancouver, with the Cutting Edge group, The Ferry Building Gallery West Vancouver,with the Vancouver Guild of Fibre Arts, The Gail harker Creative Studies Centre, Whidbey Island, Washington, USA, with several graduating exhibitions, The Connaught Center, the Friendship Center and Ventnor Hall, Brighton UK with the Dupont Art Club, and with the Embroiderers Guild, Brighton branch. Judy also had two pieces juried into the Fibre Naturally exhibition shown at the Emily Carr University, Vancouver, B.C.
